Why did you choose to come to Penn State? I came from a very small town so I knew I wanted to go to a big school. The second I walked on the Penn State campus I knew it was the place for me! Everyone seemed so genuinely happy to be there and the spirit and passion for the school was completely tangible. THON and the Architectural Engineering program are also a huge reason why I chose to come to Penn State.

What has been your best memory as an engineering student? My best memory as an engineering student was a trip I took to a local middle school with the Engineering Ambassadors. We went there to teach them about science and engineering and show them how awesome and exciting it is to be an engineer. Seeing their faces light up and how excited they were about the things we were teaching them was an amazing experience. It was awesome to know I potentially had an impact on each of their lives and gave them a new opportunity they never realized they had!

What has been your best memory as a Penn State student? My best memory as a Penn State student was probably the final four hours and the total reveal for THON 2012 during my first year. THON is one of the most amazing things I've ever been a part of and getting to experience those final four hours with all the families and students was something I'll never forget!

What advice would you give a first-year engineer? Have an open mind and remember everything happens for a reason. When coming to college we all have this pretty picture in our heads of what we think is going to happen and it doesn't always turn out that way, which can be scary. But don't worry! Things always have a way of working themselves out and sometimes the best experiences come out of something completely unexpected!

Give me one fun fact about yourself. I'm a huge dare devil! Last summer I went skydiving and I can't wait to do it again!

Melissa is a fourth year studying Architectural Engineering.
