Internship/Co-Op/Study Abroad Experience: I've interned with Pratt & Whitney in Connecticut for three summers - twice as a design engineer and once as a structures engineer. I was a research assistant for Penn State's Brite Lab for three semesters. I am now composing my Schreyer Honors thesis at Penn State's Experimental and Computational Convection Laboratory.
Why did you choose to come to Penn State? Penn State has so many opportunities for engineering students to get experience in the workplace and through clubs and organizations. I came to Penn State because I knew that the College of Engineering would prepare me for becoming a world class engineer.
What is your best Penn State or engineering memory? Receiving my first internship offer and getting to work on jet engines.
What advice would you give a first-year engineer? Explore the opportunities at Penn State and have fun! Join engineering clubs to build your engineering skills and non-engineering clubs to give yourself a break from your classwork.
What is a fun fact about yourself? I taught piano lessons for 5 years in high school
Melissa is a senior studying Mechanical Engineering
