Why did you choose to come to Penn State? Its cheesy, but when I came to visit Penn State, I fell in love with the campus. I knew I wanted to go into engineering, so I took a tour with the Engineering Ambassadors and that is what really sold me on coming here. After the tour, the ambassadors stuck around and answered every question under the sun from my mom and I about classes and life here in Happy Valley. Something has to be said about a school where the students are so enthusiastic to share their experiences and show others what makes Penn State so great. After that, it was just the obvious choice for me and the best decision I have ever made.
What has been your best memory as an engineering student? Some of my best memories have been with the Engineering Ambassadors. My favorite was when I had the chance to go to an all-girls high school for an outreach trip. We presented on engineering topics and did hands-on activities. The girls had so many questions for us and it was amazing to see how engaged they were. I was so happy to find out that most of them were considering going into STEM fields in college because it goes to show that the efforts of EA and WEP are successful.
What has been your best memory as a Penn State student? Football games are my favorite! I love tailgating with my friends and screaming like a crazy person in the student section. And after a game that we have won, all of campus just seems to be in a good mood.
What advice would you give a first-year engineer? Don't try to do everything all by yourself. Grab some friends and get a study group together for every class. Not only can you learn things from others, but by teaching others, you get a better understanding of the material as well. Also, call your mentors. They are here to help you and usually understand what you are going through.
Give me one fun fact about yourself. I have double jointed elbows. (I'll show you if you ask)
Malorie is a junior studying Industrial Engineering.
